DIRECT ANSWER
What Are the Most Important Controls?
Use WASD to move. Hold Shift during normal movement to move faster. Near a suitable surface, press Space to attach. While attached, use A / D to rotate, Space to move upward, Ctrl to move downward, and Shift to detach.
The same key can change meaning by state. Space attaches, moves up, or switches to the 3D eyedropper depending on whether you are moving normally, attached, or painting.

Controls Change by Context: Space, Shift, Ctrl, and right mouse can perform different actions depending on whether the player is moving normally, attached to a surface, painting, viewing, or playing as the Hunter.
Weekly Camo Challenge
Once the controls make sense, try a timed hiding challenge.
Paint and Hide This Week
Try a 150-second fan-made hiding challenge. Color the mannequin, blend into the scene, and save your result card.
Movement and Camera
| W / A / S / D | Move during normal gameplay. |
|---|---|
| Shift | Hold during normal movement to move faster. |
| Space near a surface | Attach to a suitable wall or object. |
The exact attachment behavior depends on distance, angle, surface geometry, current mode, and keybinds.
Learn Wall MovementWall Attachment Controls
| Space | Move upward while attached. |
|---|---|
| Ctrl | Move downward while attached. |
| A / D | Rotate the Hider left or right while attached. |
| Right Mouse + WASD | Pan or reposition along the surface after choosing an angle. |
| Shift | Detach from the surface. |
Attached Workflow
Attach, rotate, pan, choose a pose, then paint. If the body flashes red repeatedly, adjust the position, rotation, or pose because part of the Hider may be overlapping the surface.
How to Rotate While Attached
For searches like "how to rotate" or "rotate in place," the player-tested answer is: attach to a suitable surface first, then use A / D while attached.
- Move near a suitable wall, floor edge, furniture side, or object surface.
- Press Space to attach.
- Use A / D to rotate left or right while attached.
- Hold right mouse and use WASD if you need to reposition along the surface after choosing an angle.
- Press Shift to detach when finished.
Do not treat A / D as guaranteed rotate-in-place controls in every state. They are documented here for the attached Hider state.

Pose Selector
Key: R
Hold R to open the pose selector. Move the pointer to the desired pose, then release R to confirm it.
Hold RMoveRelease R
Left Click = Next Pose Page
The current player-tested interface has two pose pages.
IMPORTANT POSE CONTROL
Do Not Click to Confirm
In the current player-tested pose selector, move the pointer to the pose you want and release R. Left click changes the page. Releasing R confirms the highlighted pose.
- Hold R to open the pose selector.
- Keep holding R while moving the pointer until the pose you want is highlighted.
- Release R to confirm the highlighted pose.
- Use left click only when you want to change to another page of poses.
A laptop touchpad may work if it can move the pointer while R is held, but behavior varies by device. An external mouse is usually easier.

Painting and Eyedropper Controls
| F | Enter or leave painting mode. |
|---|---|
| Space in painting mode | Press once to switch to the 3D eyedropper. Do not hold Space. |
| Scene Click | Click the target wall, floor, furniture, or scene surface to sample its color. |
| Right Mouse + horizontal movement | Adjust brush size. Players generally move right for a larger brush and left for a smaller brush. |
| Middle Mouse while painting | Hold to rotate or inspect the character while painting. |
- Press F to enter painting mode.
- Press Space once to switch to the 3D eyedropper. Do not hold Space.
- Aim at a wall, floor tile, furniture panel, or another scene surface.
- Click to sample the color.
- Paint a small test patch before covering the full body.
A large brush is useful for the base color. A smaller brush is useful for detailed corrections.

Brush Size and Mouse Controls
| Left Mouse | Paint, or click a scene surface to sample after switching to the 3D eyedropper. |
|---|---|
| Right Mouse while attached | Hold with WASD to move along the attached surface. |
| Right Mouse while painting | Hold and move horizontally to change brush size. Move right for larger and left for smaller. |
| Middle Mouse while painting | Hold to rotate or inspect the character while painting. |
| Mouse Wheel | In painting or camouflage viewing mode on PC, scroll to zoom in and out. |
Mouse wheel zoom can be awkward on Steam Deck or controller layouts unless Steam Input maps a trackpad or button to mouse-wheel input.
If right mouse button works outside the game but camera turning or painting mode input stops working, use the right-click turning bug guide.

Viewing and Free-Camera Controls
| 5 | Enter the player-tested viewing state when the current role, mode, and round state support it. |
|---|---|
| Mouse Left / Right | Cycle through available teammate or Hunter viewpoints in supported viewing states. |
| 5 then 4 | Player-tested free movement workflow. Do not treat 4 alone as guaranteed in every state. |
Player-tested viewing flow
Players report using 5 first and then 4 for free movement. View switching may vary by role, mode, round state, and game version.
In non-Infection viewing states, use the left and right mouse buttons to cycle Hunter or teammate views. If nothing changes, that round state or game mode does not allow view cycling.
Voice Chat, Text Chat, and UI Keys
| 1 | Taunt or whistle. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Toggle player nameplates or game nicknames. |
| 3 | Toggle the player-tested transparent or see-through scene view. The visual effect and availability may vary by role, state, or version. |
| G | Give a like. Players report that the available like may be limited to one recipient, but the exact limit is not confirmed here. |
| T | Open text chat. |
| Tab | Open the current settings and latency or ping information. |
| Esc | Close the current menu, panel, or chat view when applicable. |
The transparent scene view should be treated as a player-tested visual option, not a cheat feature. Availability may change.
Microphone and Audio Controls
V - Your Microphone
Turn your own microphone transmission on or off.
B - Audio You Hear
Turn the current game audio channel you hear on or off.
Remember: V = what you send. B = what you hear.
Do not describe B as only muting one specific player, and do not describe V as a body-shadow control.

| W A S D | Move normally. |
|---|---|
| Shift | Move faster during normal movement. |
| Ctrl | Go prone in the current player-tested Hunter controls. |
| Mouse | Aim and interact with the Hunter's firearm using the current game controls. |
| Ammunition | May be unlimited or limited depending on the room settings. Check the current HUD. |
This page does not invent a specific firing key, bullet count, reload key, or ammunition rule.
State-Dependent Keys
| Space | Normal movement near a suitable surface: attach. Attached Hider: move upward. Painting mode: press once for the 3D eyedropper. |
|---|---|
| Shift | Normal movement: move faster. Attached state: detach. |
| Ctrl | Attached state: move downward. Hunter state: go prone. |
| Right Mouse | Attached state: combine with WASD to reposition along the surface. Painting mode: hold and move horizontally to change brush size. |
Check the current role and state before assuming that a key is not working. Meccha Chameleon controls are easier to understand when you first ask what state your character is in.
Controller and Steam Deck Notes
The game is mainly designed around keyboard and mouse. Current player reports indicate that normal controller play is not supported, so keyboard and mouse remain the recommended input setup.
Steam Deck or controller layouts may use Steam Input workarounds for mouse wheel or keyboard-style actions, but this page does not treat controller play as officially confirmed.

Controls Troubleshooting
Space Does the Wrong Thing
Check your current state. Space attaches near a suitable surface, moves upward while attached, and switches to the 3D eyedropper when pressed once in painting mode.
A / D Will Not Rotate
Attach to a suitable surface first. A / D are documented here as rotate controls while attached, not as guaranteed rotate controls in every state.
4 Does Not Start Free Camera
Use the player-tested workflow: press 5 first, then 4. Availability may vary by role, mode, and round state.
Controller Does Not Work
Current player reports indicate normal controller play is not supported. Use keyboard and mouse unless a future version changes this.
